We werden geattendeerd op twee voor Bach-Bukowski wel erg toepasselijk citaten van Bukowski. Het eerste uit een brief van hem aan Howard Fredrics (van 30 nov.1991), uit de brievenbundel "Reach for the Sun":
"I always write while listening to classical music and now maybe the music that goes into the poem is coming out again. Strange. Especially since I prefer to keep my writing close to the bone - like Bach."
Howard Fredrics was muziekstudent aan de universiteit van Texas en had voor zijn afstuderen enkele gedichten van Bukowski op muziek gezet en dat op een bandje aan Bukowski gestuurd. Toen hij deze brief schreef had Bukowski de muziek nog niet gehoord.
Het tweede citaat uit de dichtbundel "The Flash of lightning behind the mountain", pag. 234:
"writing is all I know how to do and
I much prefer the music of great classical
Composers so
I allways listen to them while I'm typing
(and when I finally write a good poem
I'm sure they have much to do with it)."
